4 Oil Pastel Techniques You'll Need To Enhance Your Projects

Oil pastels can be hard to use if not used in the proper ways. These techniques will help transform choppy-looking oil pastel art into a masterpiece.

Light Pressure Blending:

You will need to lightly apply the oil pastels on the paper and then add different colors to the drawing so that it blends smoothly and slightly. For instance, you can use yellow and then apply blue, as you start to blend them together, a shade of green starts to pop up. Try out different colors to create an array of light shades of hues.

Light Pressure blending is mostly used for backgrounds such as the sky

Heavy pressure blending:

This time you'll need to apply the oil pastels using strong force. The intensity of the colors will be higher this time. You can use different colors to blend them together but no gaps in a white paper should appear.

Heavy pressure blending is commonly used for filling in an image that you need to highlight.

Scumbling:

To use this method, you'll need to create scribbles using an oil pastel color of your choice. Adding different shades or colors to that scribble will help enhance your drawing.

This method is sometimes used to show depth and color variation

Stippling:
For this technique, you'll have to add dots to the paper. It's similar to pointillism and you can use it to add texture to the drawing.

Hopefully, these tips will work for you and help you level up your design, remember, practice makes perfect!
