Water Control: When dipping your brush in water, it's necessary to keep in mind how much pigment you need. It's established that the more water you add, the lighter the tone will be, and more pigment will give you a darker shade. However, too much of either thing can be damaging to your work.  So to know if you have the right amount here is a little piece of information you'll need to remember. If the color is hard to control (since it spreads too quickly) and is leaving bits of paper in your work, then chances are, you have added too much water and need more pigment to balance it out.
